Copyright & DMCA Policy
Version 3 · Effective 2026-09-06
Last updated: September 5, 2026
Registration required before this protects you. DMCA safe harbor under 17 U.S.C. § 512 requires registering a designated agent with the U.S. Copyright Office at dmca.copyright.gov (about $6). Publishing this policy without registering does not establish the protection.
Why this matters on Crexa
Crexa is a platform where members submit short-form clips derived from longer content. Campaign creators are responsible for having rights to content they post for clipping. Clippers are responsible for having rights to what they publish. Crexa does not review content for infringement before it appears.
Our position
We respect copyright and expect members to do the same. We remove infringing material when properly notified, and we terminate accounts of members who repeatedly infringe.
Designated agent
Notices of claimed infringement go to:
Copyright Agent The Crexa Group Detroit, MI Email: copyright@crexa.io
Registered with the U.S. Copyright Office at dmca.copyright.gov.
Filing a notice
To be effective under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), your written notice must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or someone authorized to act for them
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed
- Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, with enough detail to locate it — a direct URL to the specific campaign, clip, listing, or profile is best
- Your name, address, telephone number, and email address
- A statement that you have a good faith belief the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for them
Incomplete notices may not be actionable. If yours is missing something, we may ask you to supplement it.
On misrepresentation. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing can expose you to liability for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees. Consider whether the use may be authorized or may qualify as fair use before filing.
What happens next
We act expeditiously to remove or disable access to the identified material. We make a reasonable effort to notify the member who posted it, give them a copy of the notice, and inform them of their right to counter-notify.
Where the material relates to a bounty campaign, removal may also result in the clip being flagged, which stops further earnings on it.
Filing a counter-notice
If you believe your material was removed by mistake or misidentification, send a counter-notice to the agent above containing:
- Your physical or electronic signature
- Identification of the material removed and where it appeared before removal
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief it was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification
- Your name, address, and telephone number
- A statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the district where you reside — or, if outside the United States, where Crexa may be found — and that you will accept service of process from the party who filed the original notice
If we receive a valid counter-notice we forward it to the original complainant. If they don't notify us within 10 business days that they've filed an action seeking a court order, we may restore the material.
Repeat infringers
We terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of members who are repeat infringers. Decisions consider the number and nature of notices, whether counter-notices were filed, and the member's overall conduct.
Your responsibilities
By posting a campaign, uploading source content, or submitting a clip, you represent that you own or have all necessary rights to the material. If you are clipping content you didn't create, you are responsible for having permission — being invited to a campaign does not by itself grant you rights to music, footage, or other material embedded in it.
If you're unsure whether you have the rights, don't post it.
